sharing your unique story

In today's age when everyone has a social media page, podcast, online presence, etc., it is easy to ask, "what does my brand bring to the table?". How is my story any different than the other guys?

Well, to answer your question, your story is a lot different. You see, even if you are in the same industry, doing the same thing as someone else, your story is different. The reason you started is different, your personnel is different, your products are different, and your clients are different.

Why realizing your uniqueness is important.

In a world of algorithms, AI, and everyone trying to hustle and learn from the best, funny enough brands start to all look and sound…the same. We see one person become successful doing something, and immediately want to copy their brand voice, visuals, and marketing strategy.

While learning from the greats is good, and trying to keep up with the competition is good, in pursuit of those things your brands unique identity can get lost. It is that unique identity, those unique things that your brand brings to the table, that are going to be the very things that make you stand out in the market.

By leaning away from the very things that make your story unique, you compromise and become like everyone else. And in a world where attention and loyalty are the new currency, you’re gonna be broke. 🤑❌

How to craft your story.

  1. Brain dump every idea that you have as to why your brand is unique from others. Narrow those ideas down to your top 3 points.

  2. Ask trusted people in your business/brand to provide their answers, and do the same exercise of narrowing it down to the three factors that they think set your brand apart.

  3. See what answers are recurring. These are the things that are truly unique about your story and brand.

It’s a simple exercise, but brings so much clarity to your uniqueness and how you can leverage that in the market you are in.

Now what?

Now that you have done all of the hard work to figure out how your brand is unique, what do you do with that information? Info without action is wasted insight.

  1. Start telling people about it! How will people know about your story if you do not tell them? This is marketing 101 - tell people about your brand and how you are unique. Share on your social media platforms, update your website text/copy, and work on your elevator pitch.

  2. Craft a visual identity around your unique brand and story. This is where I come in. I help bring your unique stories to life through logos & branding assets that align with what sets you apart.

  3. Update your marketing materials - website, print material, and whatever else you need. This one is easy to push off because it can be expensive, confusing, and time consuming. However, your brand can’t afford to be telling an old, disconnected story when customers see your marketing material.

  4. Repeat, repeat, repeat. People may not get it the first time. Your unique story and brand need to be consistently told over, and over, and over again so that the right people find you, trust you, and want to work with you.
